Police Blotter: Scam phone calls in Randolph; hit and run in Rockaway

HACKETTSTOWN

• On Wednesday, Jeffrey Geis, 49, of Knowlton, was arrested on a $165 Hackettstown municipal court traffic warrant. Geis posted the bail and was then released.

• On Wednesday, Alyssa Pezzetta, 25, of Hardwick, was arrested on an $896 Hackettstown municipal court criminal warrant. She posted bail and was then released.

HOPATCONG

• At 10:18 p.m. on July 31, Officer David Kraus saw a male in the Lakeside Tire parking lot running between cars when the business was closed. The male jumped into a car which then left the parking lot. Kraus stopped the car and found that the driver, Calvin Cappuccio, 19, of Brooklyn, had an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath and he failed field sobriety tests. He was charged with underage driving while intoxicated, reckless driving and a provisional license violation for having too many passengers in the car. He was later picked up by a friend.

PARSIPPANY

At 1:48 a.m. on Wednesday, Sgt. Daniel McConnell and other officers responded to the Inn Crowd, located at 285 Route 46, for a report of a disturbance in the parking lot. The ensuing investigation determined that Angela O'Connor, 43, of Fairfield, had operated her 2003 blue Honda CRV while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Officers found a glass pipe, commonly utilized for crack cocaine, as well as additional drug paraphernalia and O'Connor was charged with driving while intoxicated and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was later released pending a court appearance.

RANDOLPH

• On July 20, Officers Brian McGaughran and Brian Gallina responded to McDonalds for a disturbance. Four males were using excessive profanity inside the establishment. A patron asked them to refrain from using such language and an argument ensued.

• On July 21, Officer Michael Puskas responded to the Arrowgate Complex for a report of two females in the pool area after it had closed. The females were advised they were not allowed in the pool area as they are not residents of the complex.

• On July 22, Daryl Peralta, 31, of Randolph, was arrested for an outstanding warrant. Peralta was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility so he could then later be turned over to the Essex County Sheriff's Office.

• On July 22, Alejandra C. Barrera, 33, of Randolph, was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of the City of Paterson. Barrera was released on her own recognizance.

• On July 24, Officer James Pritchard Jr. responded to the Gateways Apartment complex for a reported verbal altercation. A woman was sitting on the curb in the parking lot when a tenant pulled in and tried to park where she was sitting.

• On July 25, Officer Corey Czerniak took a burglary to an auto report. The victim left her purse in her unlocked vehicle while she was as Freedom Park. The victim's credit cards were removed from her purse.

• On July 26, Jennifer C. Axt, 23, of Randolph, was arrested for an outstanding warrant out of the Randolph Municipal Court. Axt was transported to the Morris County correctional Facility in default of bail.

• The department has been receiving several reports where residents received scam phone calls from the IRS, PSE&G and the Social Security Office. Residents are reminded to never give personal information over the phone. To confirm the legitimacy of the call, do not call the phone number that is given during the scam phone call, but get the customer service number from the website of the business the caller states they represent.

ROCKAWAY

• At 8:32 p.m. on July 29, Luigi Damore, 54, of Rockaway, on an active warrant out of the City of Orange. (Bail - $850) The arrest was due to warrant service. Damore was processed and later released on his own recognizance and the warrant recalled as per Orange.

• At 2:04 a.m. on July 29, Bruce J. Hurt Jr, 19, of Rockaway, was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving, failure to keep right, failure to possess registration and failure to possess insurance card. The charges came subsequent to a motor vehicle stop on Hill Street. Hurt was processed and released to an acquaintance with a future court date.

• At 2:44 p.m. on Aug. 2, Jessica C. Aiken-Whyte, 26, of Rockaway Township, was arrested on active warrants out of Rockaway Township and Newark (bail set at $850). The arrest came subsequent to officers responding to investigate a hit and run single vehicle crash on Hoagland Avenue. The driver, Aiken-Whyte, and vehicle were located a short distance away and upon further investigation the warrants were discovered. After being taken into to custody Jessica was turned over to Rockaway Township police.
