The Mamas and the Papas are "California Dreamin' "

The Blizzard of 2016 is here, and what are we to do? Get milk, bread and eggs, and listen to these storm-approved, winter-evoking songs. So stay warm and dry and enjoy our soundtrack to the storm.

"Cold as Ice" by Foreigner

In this blizzard, you're willing to sacrifice our love, Foreigner says. That makes you cold as ice. The guys are at the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown on February 14 and the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank on Feb. 15 -- hopefully we'll be thawed out by then.

"A Hazy Shade of Winter" by Simon & Garfunkel

Is the visibility poor? Call it a "A Hazy Shade of Winter." That's what Simon and Garfunkel did in this coming of age angsty folk rock classic. They say the leaves are brown, but we can't even see any leaves.

"Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" by Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

10th Avenue is Belmar. This won't be the first time for a freeze out in the borough. Stay safe.

"Coldest Winter" by Kanye West

"Memories made the coldest winter," sings Kanye West in this 2010 hit. Hopefully your memories of the storm of 2016 will be pleasant ones.

"The Snow Is Falling" by Galaxie 500

"The Snow is Falling" by Galaxie 500, a New York indie rock band, is a song that sounds like falling snow. Well done. Now, hopefully, it will stop.

"California Dreamin'" by the Mamas and the Papas

If this storm is bad enough, we'll all be dreaming about going to California -- or Florida.

"It May Be Winter Outside (But in My Heart It’s Spring)" by the Love Unlimited

Hope for warmer days springs eternal in this track by the Love Unlimited, perhaps best known as Barry White's backing group.

"The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine (Anymore)" by the Walker Brothers

The sun ain't going to shine anymore when you're without love -- or you're in the middle of a big snow storm. Here's hoping you're with the ones you love.
