Make A Difference Day Saturday #MDDAY @DailyRecord @Gannett

Staff Report

The public is invited to join employees of the Daily Record and members of The Land Conservancy of New Jersey for a Make A Difference Day community project from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24, at The Community Garden in Mount Olive.

Make A Difference Day.

The Community Garden, launched in 2012 by The Land Conservancy, is a cooperative arrangement that allows members to grow carrots, tomatoes, cucumbers, beans and other vegetables on designated plots.

Volunteers will be assisting with the clean up and preparation of the Community Garden at South Branch Preserve for the winter season.

The garden covers a half-acre parcel at Wolfe Road and Route 46 and members often donate excess produce to local food pantries operated by Drakestown Methodist Church and Flanders Methodist Church.

Gloves, tools and water will be provided. It is recommended to wear long pants, closed shoes and a jacket.

Participants can work a partial or full shift. There will be a lunch break at noon. Portable bathroom facilities will be available.

For more information or to volunteer on Saturday, call 973-541-1010 x14 or visit www.tlc-nj.org. (Directions below).

For more than 20 years, USA WEEKEND magazine, in collaboration with Points of Light, has sponsored Make A Difference Day, the largest national day of community service, which serves as an inspiration for local residents to take action and get involved in their neighborhood.
