DOVER – Ten families were forced out of their homes following a multi-dwelling building fire Tuesday night.

The Dover Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in a light fixture on the side of 39 Leonard St. at about 6:07 p.m. Tuesday, Dover Public Safety Director Rich Rosell said.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered a fire in the wall that traveled up in to the attic of the building, charring an area of rafters, Rosell said.

A second floor apartment sustained some fire damage, and the apartment below it sustained heavy water damage, Rosell said.

Utilities were shut off to the building and the Red Cross was called in to relocate about 10 families, Rosell said.

There were no injuries and the building was up to code, he said.

Rockaway Boro Fire, Rockaway Township Fire Companies 4 and 2, Picatinny Fire, Mine Hill EMS, and Denville EMS assisted on the scene.
