High School Roundup: Sowa’s OT goal leads Mountain Lakes girls soccer

Senior midfielder Sabina Sowa scored the game-winner with about two minutes to play in double overtime to lead the Mountain Lakes girls soccer team over Parsippany 3-2 on Saturday.

Sophomore midfielder Sydnie Savarese and senior midfielder Meredith Doty also scored for the Lakers (2-0-1). Junior forward Ashley Connor had an assist. For the Red Hawks (1-3), sophomore midfielder Haley Pignatelli scored twice.

Pequannock 1, Morris Catholic 0 (2OT): Junior forward Dana Scillieri scored the game-winner in double overtime on an assist from sophomore midfielder Hannah Daley. Sophomore goalie Skyler Troast made four saves for the shutout.

Morristown-Beard 5, Dover 1: Senior Kristy Cotter and junior Cami Calafiore each had two goals and one assist for the Crimson (2-2). Junior Meg Damstrom also scored. Sophomore forward Brittany White scored for the Tigers.

Field Hockey

Mount Olive 4, Vernon 1: Senior forward Katie Sherman scored twice to lead the Marauders (1-2). Junior forwards Maddie Keegan and Frankie Pignataro also scored. Senior goalie Arianna Krajewski made 11 saves. For the Vikings (0-3-2), McKenzie Alter scored.

Pope John 2, Morris Hills 0: Senior midfielder Carleen O’Connell led the Lions (3-0) with two goals. Senior defender Baylee Vozza and freshman forward Maddie Jordan had assists. Senior goalie Sam Scalabrini made seven saves for the shutout.

West Morris 5, Morristown 0: Senior forward Allison Heal led the Wolfpack (3-0) with two goals and two assists on Friday. Sophomore forward Skylar Migliaccio had two goals. Senior forward Mikayla Young had one goal and one assist. Sophomore goalie Emily Egan made 10 saves for the shutout.

Boys Soccer

Dover 4, Morristown-Beard 3 (2OT): Sebastian Hernandez scored the game-winner, tapping in a cross from Leandro Suarez with four minutes left in the second overtime. Hernandez tallied twice on Saturday, giving him six in four matches. Mason Toye scored twice for Morristown-Beard (2-1).

Butler 4, Wallkill Valley 4 (2OT): Junior striker Chris Acquaire scored two goals for undefeated Butler (2-0-1). Bulldogs senior midfielder Alex Scordo added a goal and two assists. Wallkill Valley’s Brad Worthington scored two first-half goals.

Pequannock 2, Morris Catholic 0: Senior midfielder Jared Mann scored both Pequannock goals. Goalkeeper Bill Troast made seven saves for the Panthers (2-2).

North Warren 4, Newton 0: Senior forward Gavin Gross had two goals and two assists for North Warren (4-0). Zavier Paniagua also scored twice.

Football

Kinnelon 39, Jefferson 21: Senior quarterback Kyle Presti completed 21 passes for 326 yards and four touchdowns as the Colts won their season opener Friday night. Aaron Anello carried five times for 103 yards and two touchdowns. Sean Duncan carried five times for 110 yards and one touchdown. Liam Nelson rushed for 78 yards and had one touchdown as well as made 12 tackles. Travis Rode rushed for 48 yards and one touchdown and had 11 tackles. Zach Moen had two interceptions and Seamus Nelson had two sacks and one fumble recovery.

Pequannock 35, Dover 13: Senior quarterback Tim Horgan threw for three touchdowns to lead the Panthers in the season opener Friday night. Pequannock senior running back Brendan Monaghan ran for one touchdown.

For the Tigers, Dwayne Brown ran in for a 38-yard touchdown and Masyn Sanchez scored on a 34-yard run.

Delbarton 28, Msgr. Farrell (N.Y.) 3: Junior quarterback Matt Zebrowski completed 4-of-4 for 22 yards and one touchdown to lead the Green Wave on Friday night. Senior quarterback John Chiarolanzio completed 3-of-7 for 37 yards and one touchdown. Junior running back Andrew Sanders carried 22 times for 154 yards and one touchdown and sophomore wide receiver Andrew Papantonis had a 37-yard touchdown run. Senior Reed Shaffer had one tackle and one interception.
