High School Roundup: Boonton football takes down Butler

Staff Report

Senior quarterback Joe Norton ran for three touchdowns to lead the Boonton football team over Butler 27-19 in the season opener on Friday.

Norton completed 4-of-6 passes for 56 yards and rushed 20 times for 139 yards for the Bombers. Senior running back Josh Smith had 13 carries for 72 yards and one touchdown. Junior linebacker Gage Cabalar had 12 tackles and cornerback Omar Anderson had four tackles and one interception.

Girls Soccer

St. Elizabeth 7, Lacordaire 0: Freshman forward Clair McVicar had a hat trick to lead the Panthers (1-4). Freshman midfielder Bella Ferriso had a goal and two assists. Senior goalie Hanna Callahan made four saves for the shutout.

Whippany Park 2, Boonton 0: Senior midfielder Katie Cantrell and sophomore midfielder Natalie Turok each had a goal to lift the Wildcats (2-2). Senior midfielder Christine Jones and junior midfielder Gina Dello Russo each had an assist.

Pope John 4, Vernon 1: Senior midfielder Alex McGill had one goal and one assist for the Lions (3-0-1). For the Vikings (0-3-1), sophomore midfielder Victoria Gonzalez scored.

Newton 5, Kittatinny 0: Senior forward Alyssa Cronin had a hat trick for the Braves (3-1) on Thursday. She now has 94 career goals. Senior midfielder Carly Zdanek had three assists and senior goalie Steph Ahmad made one save for the shutout.

Boys Soccer

Whippany Park 2, Boonton 0: Junior midfielder Matt Jeng had his second two-goal game in a row. Senior Kevin Coiley made three saves for his second straight shutout (2-1).

Mount Olive 5, Sparta 0: Senior striker Jared Miele scored two first-half goals. Guilherme Tiago added a goal and an assist for the Marauders (3-1).

Morris Knolls 2, West Morris 1: Senior midfielder Todd Wilson scored the game-winner to complete Morris Knolls' first-half comeback. West Morris midfielder Liam Moylan opened the scoring.

Mendham 4, Montville 0: Junior striker Julian Montilus tallied twice. Midfielder Christian Pedercini added a goal and an assist for the Minutemen (2-2).

Parsippany Hills 2, Roxbury 1: Senior forward Conan Bradley scored the winning goal as the Vikings stayed perfect (4-0).

Field Hockey

Morristown-Beard 2, Pequannock 0: Junior goalkeeper Devin Blanchard made 10 saves for her first shutout of the season (3-0). Senior midfielder Chelsea Kramer scored both Crimson goals.

Kittatinny 2, Newton 0: Senior forward Alexis Ambrosino had a goal and an assist for Kittatinny (3-0). Junior midfielder Ashley Brown also scored and senior goalie Julia Pevarnik made four saves for the shutout.

Mountain Lakes 4, Butler 0: Junior midfielder Jane Brennan scored twice for the Lakers (2-1). Senior defender Kate Todaro scored and had two defensive saves. Junior midfielder Vivian Yi also scored.

Madison 6, Whippany Park 0: Freshman forward Elizabeth Romano scored twice for the Dodgers (3-0). Senior defender Maeve Byrne and junior midfielder Kaitlyn DaSilva each had one goal and one assist.

Wallkill Valley 4, North Warren 1: Freshman midfielder Caitlyn Mizeski and freshman forward Fiona Blake each had a goal and an assist to lead the Cougars (1-2). For the Patriots (0-3), senior defender Amanda Konecnik scored.

Lenape Valley 2, Hackettstown 1: Senior forward Kassidy Forik led the Patriots with a goal and an assist. Senior forward Alyssa Falleni also scored.

High Point 2, Jefferson 0: Kayla Halloran led the Wildcats (1-1-1) with a goal and an assist. Sophomore Kelsey Little had a goal.
