MORRIS TWP. – Labor Day may be over, but don’t put those bathing suits away just yet.

Morris Township is squeezing one more weekend out of summer with its annual End of Season Swim Pool Picnic and BBQ from 1 to 6 p.m. this Saturday at Ginty Pool.

The $10 event marks the final day of swimming before the pool is closed for the season, and is open to all Morris Twp. residents, their guests and non-resident pool members.

“It’s a great opportunity for Morris Township residents and pool members to come out for a day of fun, music and fellowship,” township Director of Parks and Recreation Bill Foelsch said. “It’s a close community, and it’s nice to have one more opportunity to open the pool up for all residents of the township.”

The picnic will feature music from Cloud 9 DJs and a live performance by the New Jersey country and southern rock cover band Due South from 3 to 5 p.m.

In addition to swimming, the day will also feature kids’ games, inflatables and arts and crafts projects. The picnic will include traditional barbecue food including hamburgers, hot dogs and salads.

The event will also feature a groundbreaking ceremony at 12:30 p.m. for the Ginty Pool Renovation Project, a nearly $2 million restoration of the pool.

Township officials will break ground on the long-awaited project, which will begin mid-September with an estimated five-month construction period.

After closing out its 44th season, Foelsch said the pool is in need of repairs and updates to correct some issues.

The revamped pool will debut in summer 2015, featuring a new circulation system, a zero-depth entry family splash bay, a youth and children’s splash play area, a new water slide and replacement for the three-meter and one-meter diving boards.

The project also includes the addition of a heat pump system to raise the water temperature during the cooler weeks at the beginning and end of the pool season.
