Police Blotter: Stolen car in Parsippany; stolen batteries in Hanover;

DENVILLE

•At 11:30 p.m. on March 11, Sonia Schaeffer, 41, of Denville, was driving on Morris Avenue when she came in contact with a police officer directing traffic at a road construction site. She disregarded the officer’s hand signals to proceed through the construction zone and caused a delay in the flow of traffic. She then drove up to the officer, rolled down her window and asked him a question. She was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to submit to breath tests, reckless driving and failure to comply with officer’s directions. She was released on her own recognizance pending a court date.

HANOVER

•At 12:40 p.m. on March 9, Patrolman Byrnes took a report of batteries being stolen from a Sprint radio cabinet located off of South Jefferson Road. The batteries, taken between September of 2015 and the date reported were valued at $7,000.

•At 1:13 p.m. on March 11, Patrolman Zakrzewski ran a random license plate check while in the parking lot of the Econo Lodge that revealed the registered owner had a suspended driver’s license. The vehicle parked prior to being stopped and Zakrzewski identified the operator as a friend of the owner. The driver, Bernarda Delrosario-Espinal, 31, of Passaic, was found to also have a suspended driver’s license and was wanted by the Municipal Court of New York City for failing to appear on a charge of driving while intoxicated. Additional warrants issued by the Municipal Courts of Vineland and Woodland Park with a total bail of $1,603 were also located. Both Vineland and Woodland Park released Delrosario-Espinal with a new court date. She was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility to await officers from N.Y. City Courts to pick her up. Prior to being transported Delrosario-Espinal was issued summonses for driving with a suspended license and driving without insurance. The vehicle owner, Laura Feliz, 26, of Totowa, was also issued summonses for allowing a suspended driver to operate her vehicle and the uninsured vehicle. She has a date to appear in Municipal Court.

LONG HILL

•On March 6, police investigated a motor vehicle crash at approximately 10:46 p.m. on Mountain Avenue near the intersection of Morristown Road. A vehicle driven by Andrew Grimaldy, 18, of North Plainfield, was traveling south on Mountain Avenue when he lost control of his vehicle, leaving the roadway and striking a tree. As a result of the crash no injuries were reported, however Grimaldy was issued a summons for having an unsafe vehicle, with a pending court date.

MORRIS COUNTY PARK POLICE

•On March 9, Patrolman Casey Petrocy was dispatched to the Morris County Library in Hanover on a report of a fire. A small fire started in the area of the second floor and roof, and was possibly caused by on-going renovations. The library was evacuated and both the Whippany and the Cedar Knolls Fire Departments extinguished the flames. No injuries were reported.

•On March 9, officers were conducting a foot patrol in Hedden County Park in Randolph when they discovered a discarded Dior brand purse. No persons were in the area. An inspection of the purse's contents revealed a green, leafy vegetation believed to be marijuana and a smoking pipe. The owner of this purse is invited to call or respond to police headquarters.

•On March 10, officers were dispatched to the Morris County Library in Hanover on a report of two individuals harassing library patrons. An investigation revealed these two were campaigning for the upcoming presidential election without authorization. One of these individuals, Andrew M. Bloschak, age 67, of Belleville, was discovered to have an outstanding warrant for failure to appear in court in Jefferson. Bloschak was able to post bail and was released from police headquarters with a new court date pending.

MOUNT OLIVE

•At 2:25 a.m. on March 12, Officer Andrew Spotts was patrolling Route 46 in the area of New Street when he observed a 2016 Lexus traveling Route 46 fail to maintain a lane on multiple occasions. A motor vehicle stop was conducted at which time the driver, Marina Rodriguez, 40, of Budd Lake, appeared to be impaired due to alcohol consumption. Spotts conducted field sobriety tests and Rodriguez was subsequently arrested and transported to police headquarters where she submitted to chemical breath tests and was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, failure to maintain a lane, and failure to notify DMV of address change. Rodriguez was released to a sober driver with a pending court appearance.

•At 11:46 p.m. on March 12, Officer David Hering was performing a business check at the Super 8 Motel located in the Budd Lake section of town when he observed a 1999 Ford running in the lot and it appeared that the driver was sleeping inside the vehicle. Hering was able to wake the driver and identified him as Mark Gaertner, 54, of Hackettstown, who appeared to be impaired due to alcohol consumption. Gaertner was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. Gaertner was released to a sober driver and he has a pending court appearance.

PARSIPPANY

•At 2:51 p.m. on Feb. 25, Officer W. Stone observed an improperly parked 1998 Nissan Altima on the shoulder of the New Road near Route 280. He conducted a check of the registration and observed a man sitting inside the vehicle and another male standing outside it. He received a response that the vehicle was reported stolen, at which time he conducted a U-Turn to further investigate. While conducting the U-Turn he observed the two males crossing the roadway heading towards Wawa. Stone made contact with Xaquai Green, 18, of East Orange, and a 17-year-old juvenile male from East Orange in front of Wawa and inquired about the vehicle. Other patrol units arrived on scene to assist. After a brief investigation it was determined that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Newark, NJ on Feb. 24. Green was placed under arrest and the juvenile male was taken into custody. Both individuals were transported to Parsippany Police Department and charged with receiving stolen property. Green’s bail was set at $2000 which he was able to post. He was released pending his court appearance. The juvenile was released to the custody of his parents pending his court date.

•At 12:38 a.m. on Feb. 29, police department dispatchers were advised that a trailer was possibly being stolen from the area of 1029 Edwards Road and was being towed by a white van occupied by two males. The caller stated that it appeared that the trailer was not properly attached to the hitch of the van and it was now heading south on New Road. As police were responding to the scene the caller advised that the van and trailer were now driving the wrong way down the Route 280 West off ramp and continuing to drive east in the westbound lanes of Route 280 west. Lt. B. Dowd located the trailer on Route 280 West near exit 1, but the van had already left the area. After a brief investigation it was determined that the trailer was stolen from AJACO Towing at 1029 Edwards Road at which time they were contacted and responded to the scene to take possession of the trailer. This incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the Parsippany Investigative Division at 973-263-4311.

•At 10:23 p.m. on March 1, police dispatchers were advised of a two vehicle crash at the intersection of Route 46 West and Baldwin Road. Sgt. R. Cooper and Officers J. Domiciano and E. Ebanks, arrived at the scene and found a 2010 Chevrolet Traverse and a 2003 Volkswagen Beetle that were involved in a motor vehicle crash. The three occupants in the Traverse and the sole occupant/driver of the Volkswagen Beetle were all uninjured. Cooper and Domiciano spoke to Christopher Osmun, 23, of Parsippany, who was driving the Volkswagen Beetle, and then charged him with driving while intoxicated. As officers attempted to handcuff Osmun, he began flailing his arms and resisting. After a brief struggle, Osmun was handcuffed and transported back to Parsippany Police Headquarters. He was charged with resisting arrest, driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, refusal to submit to a breath test, and reckless driving. He was released on his own recognizance into the custody of a family member pending his court date. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Traverse was stopped at the red light on Route 46 West at Baldwin Road when the Volkswagen Beetle failed to stop and crashed into the rear of the Chevy Traverse.

RANDOLPH

•On Feb. 17, Officer James Pritchard Jr. took a report of identity theft. The victim stated someone had opened a “Paypal” account in his name.

•On Feb. 18, Officer James Pritchard Jr. responded to the area of Meadowbrook Road for a report of barking dogs. The dogs were located and the homeowner was issued a local ordinance violation.

•On Feb. 18, Richard T. LaFlamme, 59, of Essex Fells, was stopped for a motor vehicle violation and subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated. LaFlamme was processed and issued several summonses prior to being released.

•On Feb. 19, Officer James Pritchard Jr. responded to the parking lot of LA Fitness for a report that two vehicles had broken windows. The Morris County Sheriff’s Office arrived to process the scene.

•On Feb. 20, Mason W. Seipp, 20, of Flanders, was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after a motor vehicle stop. Seipp was processed and released.

WASHINGTON TWP.

•At 3:15 a.m. on Saturday, Officer Ryan Olah conducted a motor vehicle stop on a 2011 Toyota on East Mill Road for a motor vehicle violation. Upon speaking to the driver, Kenneth Joyce, Olah detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from inside of the vehicle. Joyce was asked to complete standardized Field Sobriety Tests and it was determined that he was exhibiting signs of impairment. Joyce was issued motor vehicle complaints for driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and failure to stop at a stop sign. Joyce was later released to a responsible adult with a pending court appearance in Washington Township Municipal Court.
