Bicyclist hit by car in Budd Lake

MOUNT OLIVE – A 54-year old man was hit by a car while riding his bicycle along Route 46 Sunday evening, police said.

At about 5:10 p.m. Sunday, police responded to Route 46 near the Budd Lake Fire Department for a report of a bicyclist struck by a motor vehicle, Officer Marianne Wurtemberg said.

Upon arrival, officers found the victim, a 54-year-old man from Long Valley, on the ground being treated by the Budd Lake First Aid Squad, Wurtemberg said.

An accident investigation revealed the man was traveling west in the right lane of travel on Route 46 when he was struck by a white Chevrolet that was traveling west in the same lane, Wurtemberg said.

The bicyclist was treated for chest injuries at the scene and flown to Morristown Medical Center, Wurtemberg said.

The driver of the Chevrolet remained at the scene and was uninjured in the crash, Wurtemberg said.

The accident investigation is underway by the Mount Olive Investigation Division and the Morris County Crime Investigation Division.

The victim was also aided at the scene by St. Clare’s Hospital paramedics and the Budd Lake Fire Department.
