Morris County takes ALS #IceBucketChallenge

Anyone who's been on social media lately knows the Ice Bucket Challenge is unavoidable.

Scroll down your news feed and you'll see familiar faces, one after the other, filling buckets of varying sizes with ice and water, dumping it on their heads and challenging three or more friends to do the same within 24 hours or donate money.

The grassroots campaign is an attempt to raise money for the ALS Association, a nonprofit organization working to fight amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, Lou Gehrig's disease.

Most choose to dump freezing cold water on themselves, some write a check and many do both.

Regardless, the videos are certainly raising awareness. Since each video leads to about three more, the trend has gone viral quickly, and earlier this week the ALS Association said they received $4 million in donations between July 29 and Aug. 12, up from $1.12 million during the same time period in 2013.
