BOONTON – Police are searching for a man who may have attempted to abduct a 10-year-old girl Tuesday afternoon.

According to a Nixle alert sent out to Boonton residents Wednesday afternoon, police responded to Cedar Street in town at 4:57 p.m. Tuesday for possible attempted child abduction.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with a 10-year-old girl who said she was walking home from school when a white man in his 20s pulled up alongside her, police said.

The man stopped the car - described as a black, four-door sedan similar to a Lincoln Town Car livery cab, according to the girl – and exited the vehicle, police said.

He then approached the girl and grabbed her right arm without speaking to her, police said.

The girl immediately pulled away and ran home, police said.

As she ran away, the girl saw the man get back in his car and drive off in the direction of Wootton Street, police said.

The driver was described as a white man in his 20s, about five-foot-nine, wearing black cargo pants, black boots, and a black T-shirt with an image of a skull on it. He was also wearing a black mask over his face, police said.

The area was canvased by patrols and police contacted neighboring towns, but no vehicle or man matching the description was located, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Boonton Police Department Detective Bureau at 973-402-9371 ext. 610 or 613.

Police also ask that residents warn their neighbors, share this information, report any suspicious activity, and discuss the dangers of strangers with their children.
