Update: Morris could get 3 to 6 inches of snow Friday

Staff and wire reports

Winter just won't go away.

The first day of spring is Friday but forecasters are predicting from 3 to 6 inches of snow in Morris County.

According to the National Weather Service, a winter weather advisory is in effect for Morris from 6 am to 8 pm. Roads could become slippery and both the morning and evening commutes may be impacted, the advisory says.

"It's not going to feel or look anything like spring," said David A. Robinson, the New Jersey state climatologist at Rutgers University.

Saturday's forecast calls for sunny skies with a high temperature of about 48. Sunday temperatures will drop to around 37.

"For anyone who might be driving on a slushy or icy road Friday or Friday night, it's no solace that it's going to be gone by Saturday evening," says Robinson.

And there's more winter due to arrive late in the weekend, and more shots of cold air later this month and into April, according to AccuWeather.com

"This is going to be a slow start to spring," says Robinson.

The Northeast cold follows, ironically, the warmest December through February period on record globally and the second warmest February on record across the planet, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
