Staff report

BOONTON – Police have released a sketch of a man they are looking for in connection with the possible attempted abduction of a 10-year-old girl.

Police were initially called at 4:57 p.m. on March 24 about a possible attempted child abduction that occurred at the intersection of Cedar and Liberty streets.

Officers spoke with the girl who said that she was walking home from school when a man, who appeared to be in his 20’s, driving a black four door sedan, most likely a newer model Lincoln Town Car, pulled alongside her.

The man got out of the vehicle, approached the girl and grabbed her right arm, without saying anything to her, police said.

The girl pulled away and ran home but noticed the man get back into his car and drive up Liberty Street towards Wootton Street, police said.

The driver was described as being in his 20’s, approximately 5 feet, 9 inches tall, wearing black cargo pants, black boots, and a black T-shirt with an image of a skull on it. He had an “olive“ or a light tan skin tone with short cropped hair and a neatly “shaped” hairline. He was also wearing a black mask over his face leaving the top part of his head exposed, police said.

The Boonton Police Department announced on its Facebook page that they will continuing to increase uniform and undercover patrols throughout the town as this investigation continues to progress.
