LETTER: Bear slaughter an offense to nature

As I watch the birds fly free, I realize all our animals are not free.

Our animals in New Jersey are hunted to the brink of extinction and raised for the purpose of a hunter's thrill. Our black bears, a symbol of strength and nobility, are slaughtered and degraded in the name of a trophy. Hunters can mutilate their bodies but can never destroy their spirit.

Nature is crying from the loss of her black bear families along with every person connected with their spirit.

The hunter has taken the lives of a very rare and majestic animal but each adult black bear and cubs will live on forever in our hearts and minds.

We will never forget how each bear has touched our lives. Every time a bear is killed, a piece of humanity is lost and dies with the animal kingdom.

They bleed, we bleed. They cry, we cry. They moan, we moan. They feel, we feel. How could a hunter take a defenseless, helpless life? Such a senseless killing is incomprehensible. The scars upon our wildlife and bears are irreversible.

Where is the justification for this horrific crime? Why does Gov. Christie condone the mass killing of life?

Soar free black bear spirits. Take comfort your spirit lives on in the hearts and minds of the chosen few.

Mankind. wake up before all our bears and animals in our ecosystem is gone. Someday, the bears will be at peace. Hopefully, it will not be too late. Rest in peace all the 510 bears who lost their lives this month.
