LETTER: Morristown Medical staff a blessing

The very act of entering a hospital — as patient or visitor — demonstrates some degree of physical or emotional vulnerability. Herded into waiting rooms, languishing hours just to have simple questions answered, and being met with complex, irritable, or downright unhelpful answers is part of the experience.

These healthcare “professionals” often forget that we do not speak their language, and we are not there because we chose to be.

It is comforting therefore when one encounters hospital staff truly dedicated to their work; and at Morristown Medical Center, that staff is the security department.

One might be forgiven for failing to notice these men and women, who are never too close for discomfort, but always where you need them. They are polite, responsive, and understand what years of medical training seems to unlearn: that patients are scared. It is no surprise then that I afterwards read how the department is nationally recognized for excellence.

I understand that there has recently been a change in the leadership at Morristown and Atlantic Health System, I can only hope they appreciate the management and performance of their security department as much as I, and many others I am sure do.
