Services will take place on Saturday for the 18-year-old Rockaway Township man who drowned in a rip current Monday at the Jersey Shore.

Kevin Searfoss, who graduated from Morris Knolls High School in June, died about 11 p.m. Monday, hours after being pulled from the ocean in Sea Bright, according to borough police Chief John Sorrentino.

A service in his honor will begin at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, visitors are asked to “please be kind to others, and always be your best self.”

His mother, Judy Searfoss, said the last few weeks “were the happiest of his life” as her son prepared to attend Drexel University in the fall.

According to his obituary, Searfoss “enjoyed hanging with his friends, anime, League of Legends, gaming and music. He was a talented artist, writer and all-around good soul.”

He also was a four-year member of the Morris Knolls fencing team.

Friends and classmates, posting on a Facebook memorial page, described him as “funny,” “great” and awesome.”

According to his obituary, “He leaves only happy memories” to his parents, John and Judy (nee Zeleny); his siblings and best friends Thomas, Helaina, and Ian; paternal grandmother Eileen Searfoss; many uncles, aunts, cousins, great friends and acquaintances; and his “combative canine” Cecil.

He was predeceased by his grandparents, John Searfoss and Joan and Robert Zeleny.

Memories and tributes can be posted at www.normandean.com.
