MORRIS PLAINS – Six unlocked vehicles were burglarized and two — a Jeep Grand Cherokee and Audi A6 — were outright stolen between Friday night and Saturday morning in the borough.

Police received reports of the six vehicle burglaries and two thefts on Saturday and are warning residents to always lock vehicle doors, close the windows and remove personal items.

"According to residents, their unlocked vehicles were entered, ransacked and, on several occasions, property had been taken," said Detective Bruce Rapp. "It appears that only small, personal items have been reported missing at this time; however, the investigation is ongoing."

A 2013 Audi A6 and 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, both with car keys left inside, were stolen from Glenbrook Road and Hillview Avenue. The burglaries occurred on the same roads, as well as Dayton and Oldwood roads, and Parker Drive.

Surrounding municipalities were advised of the stolen vehicles and the Morris County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Section responded to gather evidence from the burglaries, Rapp said.

Rapp also urged residents to immediately call their local department if they see anything suspicious and to provide as much information as possible.
