Three people injured when their van overturned on eastbound Route 80 in Knowlton were transferred to Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest Hospital in Bethlehem, Pa., for “continued trauma-level care,” according to a Pocono Medical Center spokesperson.

New Jersey State Police sources said 17 passengers in a Mercedes van were taken to Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg, Pa., shortly after midnight on Monday after the van rolled on its side in the Warren County township along the Delaware River.

Sgt. Jeffrey Flynn said the passengers were taken for evaluation after sustaining “non-life-threatening injuries.” But a Pocono Medical Center spokesperson said on Monday afternoon that 15 passengers were “treated and released,” with three of those transferred to Lehigh Valley. He described the transfer as “standard procedure” for their patients in need of trauma care.

The spokesperson did not provide additional details on the nature of their injuries. Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest did not immediately respond to a request for an update on their condition.

Flynn said the accident, and whether thunderstorms taking place at the time, were under investigation.

Flynn said he did not know where the van was coming from or going to, but that the van was registered to an individual owner.
