Two dogs reported stolen from a Morristown home on Saturday were located Wednesday in Denville, police said.

The puppies - Bella and Boss - were reported stolen Saturday evening from the backyard of their Speedwell Avenue home, Morristown Police Department Lt. Stuart Greer said.

The owners of the dogs, Donnie Horn and Lorena Bussorelli, offered a $1,000 reward for their safe return earlier this week.

After five days, the pit bull and pointer mixes were spotted Wednesday afternoon in Denville by an “alert citizen,” and the puppies were returned to the Horns by Denville Animal Control Officer Meredith Petrillo, Greer said

Greer said he could not comment on whether any charges would be filed, saying it was an active investigation.

“We’re still looking into the circumstances under which the dogs went missing,” Greer said. “So it is still under investigation.”

Petrillo also said she was unable to comment due to the ongoing investigation.

Calls to the phone number offering a reward for the dogs were not returned.
