Mt. Olive woman charged with DWI with 3 year old in car

MOUNT OLIVE – A woman is facing a child endangerment charge after being arrested for allegedly driving drunk with her 3 year old in the car, police said.

At 9:37 p.m. on Sunday, the Mount Olive Police Communications Center received a call reporting a suspicious vehicle in the area of the McDonald’s in the International Trade Zone.

Officer Lonnie Elbaum responded and located the suspicious vehicle, a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser being operated by Lindsey Barnes, 32, of Budd Lake, with her 3-year-old child in the rear of the vehicle, police said.

Elbaum spoke to Barnes and thought that she appeared to be under the influence of narcotics, police said.

Standardized field sobriety tests were conducted on Barnes, who was then placed under arrest for operating a vehicle while under the influence, police said.

A family member responded to the scene and took custody of her while Barnes was transported to police headquarters where she was evaluated by a drug recognition evaluator.

Barnes was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, driving while under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance and driving while intoxicated with a minor child in the vehicle. She was released to a family member pending a court appearance.
