Police Blotter: Altercation at golf course; Hanover shed break in

DENVILLE

•On Oct. 14, police conducted a traffic stop on Route 80 for a moving violation and the driver, Alberto A. Modesto, 29, of New York, N.Y., was found to be in possession of marijuana. He was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, improper U-Turn, unregistered vehicle and tinted windows. He was released after being processed.

HANOVER

•At 11:49 a.m. on Oct. 11, Patrolman Eric Magley responded to the Bee Meadow Park football fieldhouse on a report of a break in. A member of the youth football association said he locked the concession shed at 9 p.m. and when another member arrived the next morning found that an unknown person had forced the door open. There is nothing reported missing or damaged at this time.

LINCOLN PARK

•At 2:15 a.m. on Oct. 10, Anto Begic, age 64, of Bloomingdale, was arrested for driving while intoxicated after Sgt. John Cifelli noticed a vehicle being operated in an erratic manner on Boonton Turnpike. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop and detected an odor of alcohol emanating from Begic’s breath. After roadside sobriety testing, Begic was issued summonses for careless driving, failure to maintain lane, obstructing passage of vehicles, driving while intoxicated and possessing an open container of alcohol in his vehicle. He was released to a responsible party with a pending court date.

•At 11:08 p.m. on Oct. 9, Julio Acevedo-Martinez, 25, of Saddle Brook, was arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance after Officer Heather Bailey conducted a motor vehicle stop on Jacksonville Road. Upon approaching the vehicle, Bailey smelled an odor of marijuana coming from inside of the vehicle and located a small bag containing suspected marijuana in plain view inside the vehicle’s passenger compartment. Acevedo-Martinez was charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams, a disorderly persons offense. He was processed and released with a pending court date in Municipal Court.

•At 7 a.m. on Oct. 9, Luis Jorge, 35, of Little Falls, was arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance after Patrolman Michael Viviani conducted a motor vehicle stop on Comly Road. Viviani smelled an odor of marijuana coming from inside of the vehicle. Upon performing a search of the passenger compartment, Viviani located a small pipe containing suspected marijuana as well as loose prescription pills and drug paraphernalia. Jorge was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and issued summonses for speeding and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. He was processed and released with a pending court date.

WASHINGTON TWP.

•At 6:10 p.m. on Oct. 9, Officer Kevin Barnes investigated a three car motor vehicle crash on Schooleys Mountain Road in the area of Camp Washington Road. Barnes was informed one vehicle had left the scene. A short time later the vehicle was located by Cpl. Michael Hade in the area of 43 Schooleys Mountain Road disabled. Upon speaking to the occupants, Hade and Barnes detected theodor of marijuana emanating from inside of the vehicle. A search of the vehicle yielded less than 50 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The driver of the vehicle, Jeremy Williams, 20, of Ozone Park, N.Y., was arrested and issued a criminal complaint for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Williams was also issued a motor vehicle summons for careless driving, leaving the scene of motor vehicle crash, failure to report a motor vehicle crash and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle. Williams was released with a court date in the Washington Township Municipal Court.

•At 10:16 p.m. on Oct. 9, Officer Michael Thompson and Cpl. Michael Hade responded to the Minebrook Gold Course for an intoxicated female wishing to be transported to the hospital. The female was attending a social event at the golf course. While Thompson was tending to the female, a physical altercation began in the ballroom involving several subjects who were attending the same social gathering. One male subject who was involved in the altercation suffered injuries to his head, and was transported by the Long Valley First Aid Squad to the Hackettstown Regional Medical Center. While Thompson was interviewing witnesses regarding the assault, Aaron Sariento, 19, of Jersey City, approached him in an aggressive manner. Sariento refused to calm down and refused to back away from Thompson after being instructed several times to do so. As a result, he was placed under arrest for disorderly conduct. Sariento was released with a pending court date.

•At 7:19 p.m. on Oct. 10,. Officer Kevin Barnes received notification of an erratic driver on Schooleys Mountain Road. Barnes located the vehicle on East Avenue and conducted a motor vehicle stop. While speaking to the driver, Kyle Telfer, 20, of North Brunswick, Barnes observed marijuana in the ashtray of the vehicle. Barnes conducted a search of the vehicle and additional marijuana and drug paraphernalia was located. Telfer was issued a criminal complaint for possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Telfer was also issued a motor vehicle complaint for possession of a controlled dangerous substance inside of a motor vehicle. Telfer was later released with a pending court date.
