TRENTON – Gov. Chris Christie is heading back to New Jersey in advance of the approaching blizzard.

Christie has been campaigning in New Hampshire and was due to remain there until Monday, but he said this afternoon that he would instead return to New Jersey today and plans to remain in the state through Saturday.

“I want to make sure that the people of my state feel safe and secure and know that despite the fact that I have been on the phone seven or eight times in the past two days to get updates from the National Weather Service and lay out plans for how we’re going to deploy resources, talk to the National Guard, talk to the Department of Transportation, talk to the Department of Environmental Protection, make sure everybody knows what they’re doing, they’ll feel better if I’m there,” Christie said.

He said at the end of a town-hall meeting in Littleton, New Hampshire, that he would try to return to the campaign trail Sunday.

“We’ll see how conditions look like after the day tomorrow. If they’re what I think they will be, which is plowed and under control, and the weekend so nobody’s having to run anywhere, then I’ll come back on Sunday,” Christie said.

Most of Christie’s scheduled campaign events for the rest of today and Saturday will be handled by his wife, Mary Pat.
