Police Blotter: DWI in Florham Park; shoplifting in Randolph

FLORHAM PARK

•At 8:51 p.m. on Nov. 26, Police Chief Robert Treiber was off duty when he saw an erratic driver traveling on Ridgedale Avenue. Treiber reported it and Officer Brian Mensing located the vehicle and conducted a motor vehicle stop. While speaking to the driver, Jason F Bolchazy, 42, of Yonkers, N.Y., Mensing observed the passenger, Christine A Hansen, 26, of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., appeared to be exhibiting signs of being under the influence of narcotics. After speaking to both occupants of the vehicle, Mensing noted several inconsistencies in their stories and also observed items that he believed to have been shoplifted. Mensing conducted a search of the vehicle and retrieved numerous containers of baby formula, Otter Box cell phone cases and ovulation test kits. After an investigation it was determined that at least one container of the baby formula was shoplifted from the Florham Park CVS by Hansen just prior to the stop. Hansen was placed under arrest and transported to police HQ’s where she was processed. While at headquarters she was found to be in possession of 2 prescription pills. Hansen was charged with shoplifting and possession of a controlled dangerous substance before she was released on her own recognizance pending a Florham Park Municipal Court date.

HACKETTSTOWN

•At 11:35 p.m. on Nov. 30, an officer initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle on Washington Street for a moving violation and observed signs that the driver, Thomas Cafferty, 28, of Mansfield Twp., might be under the influence of alcohol. Cafferty was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in a school zone, reckless driving and failure to observe a traffic signal. He was released pending a court appearance.

LONG HILL

•On Nov. 22, police investigated a motor vehicle crash at about 10:28 a.m. in the parking lot of 1013 Valley Road. Huei Kwok, 61, of Gillette, was traveling south through the parking lot. Rafael Rodriguez, 48, of Baltimore, Md., was backing out of a parking space when he collided with Kwok. As a result of the crash no injuries were reported and no summonses were issued.

•On Nov. 22, police investigated a hit and run motor vehicle crash at about 4:59 p.m. in the parking lot of 342 Valley Road. Damage to a parked vehicle was reported to police. Upon further police investigation, Ahoura Minaeian, 17, of Berkeley Heights, was determined to have been the actor that left the scene. Minaeian was apparently backing up in the parking lot when he struck a parked vehicle and left the scene. As a result of the crash, no injuries were reported. Minaeian was issued summonses for careless driving, failure to report an accident, and leaving the scene of an accident.

•On Nov. 25, police were investigating a complaint of a loose dog in the area of 234 Union St., Stirling, and encountered a suspicious vehicle. Police approached the driver, Arek Mccoy, 19, of Millington, and a juvenile. Police determined probable cause existed for a search of Mccoy’s vehicle. The search yielded multiple items of drug paraphernalia, several bags of marijuana, numerous empty zip lock bags, an electronic scale and cash. The juvenile was taken into custody for possession of marijuana under 50 grams. Mccoy was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana under 50 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, and operating a motor vehicle while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Mccoy was released with a pending Court date. The juvenile was turned over to parent/guardian.

MOUNT OLIVE

•At 1:47 a.m. on Sunday, Officer Michael Carletta was on patrol on Route 206 in the area of the Mall at 206, when he observed a blue Mitsubishi exit the parking lot of the mall without stopping at the stop sign. Carletta executed a motor vehicle stop and spoke to the driver, Rena Slater, 31, of Netcong, and detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage. Slater was asked to exit her vehicle to perform field sobriety tests and then charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and failure to stop. Slater was released to a sober driver pending a court hearing.

•At 10:10 p.m. on Sunday, Officer Andrew Spotts was on Route 206 in the area of the 7-Eleven when he observed a grey Acura fail to maintain its lane so he stopped it on Flanders Drakestown Road. Spotts spoke to the driver, Steven Paradiso, 22, of Flanders, and detected the odor of marijuana coming from the interior of the vehicle. Paradiso was asked to exit his vehicle and a search produced multiple containers of suspected marijuana, rolling papers, a glass pipe containing suspected burnt marijuana and two grinders containing suspected marijuana. Paradiso was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to maintain lane. Paradiso was released pending a court hearing.

RANDOLPH

•On Oct. 30, Jimmy J. Castellan, 18, of Newark, was stopped for a parking violation on Route 10 and found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Castellan was transported to Police Headquarters where he was processed and issued several motor vehicle violations.

•On Oct. 31, Stephanie M. Jimenez, 22, of Dover, was arrested on an outstanding warrant issued by the Sparta Twp. Municipal Court. Jimenez posted bail and was released.

•On Oct. 31, Yesenia L. Jimenez, 20, of Dover, was arrested for an outstanding warrant issued by the West Milford Municipal Court. Jimenez posted bail and was released.

•On Oct. 31, Jesse E. Casiere, 32, of Lake Hopatcong, was arrested for possession of a controlled dangerous substance and drug paraphernalia. Casiere also had an outstanding warrant out of the East Orange Court. He was processed and released.

•Oct 31, Kevin G. Cottman was arrested for an outstanding warrant issued by the Randolph Twp Municipal Court. Cottman was processed and transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility in default of bail.

•On Nov. 4, Samantha M. Harris Treston, 41, of Randolph, was arrested after a motor vehicle stop for two outstanding warrants issued by the Madison Municipal Court. Harris Treston was processed and issued several motor vehicle summonses.

•On Nov. 5, Officer James Pritchard Jr. took a report of fraudulent use of a credit card. The victim stated he had two transactions on his credit card totaling over $1000 that he did not make. The credit card company closed his account and issued him a new card.

•On Nov. 7, police responed to Radtke Road for a reported brush fire. A nearby resident had emptied her fire place ashes at the rear of her property and ignited the fire. The Randolph Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.

•On Nov. 7, Officer Daniel Novoa responded to the Canfield Mews Apartment for a report of a theft from a motor vehicle. The victim stated several items were removed from his unlocked vehicle.

•On Nov. 7, Adam E. Clymer, 31, of Long Valley, was stopped for a motor vehicle violation and subsequently arrested for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Clymer was processed and released.

•On Nov. 8, Marline I. Torres, 21, of Landing was arrested for possession of metal knuckles that were found in her vehicle during an investigation of a motor vehicle crash. Torres was transported to Police Headquarters where she was processed and released with a pending court appearance at Morris County Superior Court in Morristown.

•On Nov. 8, Officer Giacomo Greco responded to the parking lot of the Center Grove Apartments for a reported theft from a motor vehicle. The victim stated several items were removed from his vehicle.

•On Nov. 8, Officer Daniel Novoa responded to a business on Route 10 for a reported shoplifting. The store employee stated she observed the defendant place several articles of clothing into a book bag. The defendant admitted to taking the clothing and surrendered the items back to the store.

•On Nov. 11, Thomas W. Schuler, 49, of Shawanese, Pa., was stopped for operating an unregistered vehicle and subsequently arrested for three warrants issued by the Dover and Lyndhurst Municipal Courts. Schuler posted bail and was released.

•On Nov. 12, John M. Rozgonyi, 26, of Pequannock, was stopped for a motor vehicle violation and subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated. Rozgonyi was processed and issued several motor vehicle summonses.
