New roof for Dover family

Special to the Daily Record

DOVER – Two businesses are teaming up with Morris Habitat for Humanity to provide a local family with a new roof in time for winter.

Homeowner Debora Gordon applied last year to Morris Habitat’s Home Repair program, which allows low-income families to get critical repairs done to existing homes using Habitat volunteer labor.

The homeowner generally pays for the materials needed for the repair. However, the Gordon’s roof was examined and it was determined that it needed to be completely replaced but with limited resources the cost of roof replacement was too much for the family, according to a press release from Habitat for Humanity.

Melissa Ailiff, Morris Habitat home repair coordinator, researched and found a way to provide a new roof for very little cost. In this case, the homeowner pays only the associated project costs, the release said.

GAF, a national roofing and ventilation manufacturer, will provide the roofing materials and a local certified contractor, in this case, George Keller & Sons from Flanders, will provide the volunteer labor to install the roof.

Dan Keller, George Keller’s youngest son, said that last year his company participated in another GAF sponsored program and enjoyed being able to help a family in Long Valley so he was happy to rally some builders to provide a roof for the Gordons, the release said.

The Gordon’s roof is expected to be completed in time for winter. To learn more about Morris Habitat’s programs, go to www.MorrisHabitat.org.
