First Pooches Sonny and Bo are the stars of the White House holiday decor
Your house might not be ready for the holidays, but the White House is already all decked out.
Bo and Sunny Obama, the First Pooches, wearing their festive, red collars joined first lady Michelle Obama to greet military families and children for the annual preview of holiday decorations at the White House, before tens of thousands of visitors tour the place.
Here's what the families saw:
- 62 trees
- Some 70,000 ornaments
- 56 snow figurines
- A White House gingerbread house that weighs nearly 500 pounds.
- Dogs Bo and Sunny front and center of a chocolate replica of the White House in the State Dining Room
- A "tree with doggy treats and tennis ball ornaments," according to the First Lady. ("And I think I’ve heard Bo and Sunny are pretty excited about that one," she said.)
Obama, in a sleeveless olive-green jacquard-lace dress and gold patent pumps, called the 2015 theme "A Timeless Tradition." The decorations honored military
"...our decorations celebrate proud American traditions and our singular American spirit," she said, according to the White House transcript of her remarks.
The best part of the tour? The dogs, of course.
"So anybody who is afraid of dogs, you tell me, okay? But they’re pretty nice. They’re bigger than they look on TV," said Obama before she and the two dogs were sitting on the floor surrounded by children.
