Police searching for Hackettstown stabbing suspect

HACKETTSTOWN - Police are asking for the public’s help locating a man who stabbed another man early Sunday morning.

At 1:23 a.m. Sunday, police responded to the area of Madison Street and West Moore Street after a report came in about stabbing.

The ensuing investigation determined that a 28-year-old male was approached by a white or hispanic male, wearing a dark colored trench coat or long sweatshirt, black beanie hat and shoulder length hair, police said.

The suspect asked the victim for a cigarette or money but the victim didn’t have a cigarette and did not give the other man any money, police said.

The suspect then produced a knife, which the victim attempted to kick out of the suspect’s hand but ended up being stabbed in the foot, police said.

The victim then ran from the suspect but collapsed in a front yard, where the victim was then stabbed in the back, police said.

An individual that was driving in the area saw the suspect lying on the ground and ran after the suspect, police said.

The witness lost sight of the suspect in the area of Main Street and West Moore Street.

The victim was transported to Morristown Medical Center by the Hackettstown Rescue Squad. His condition was not available.
