MOUNT ARLINGTON – One store closes, another one opens on Howard Boulevard.

The Mount Arlington QuickChek got significantly larger Monday, moving from a storefront in a shopping plaza to a 5,700-square-foot complex that looks to be one of the chain’s most successful stores.

“We have enjoyed a long history serving the Mount Arlington community,” QuickChek CEO Dean Durling said. “We look forward to continuing to serve this market with our newest products and services.”

The new QuickChek in Mt. Arlington is located directly off the Route 80 exit on Howard Boulevard.

At 5 p.m. Monday, the existing store closed and the new standalone one, complete with a gas station and a café, officially opened its doors.

The new store will be open 24 hours a day and will also feature a no-fee ATM, indoor and outdoor seating, five fueling stations and 46 parking spaces.

Russ Mensch, a spokesperson for QuickChek Corp., said construction on the store took about six months to complete. He did not say how much the new store cost to build.

The new store will employ 30 people, with most moving from the previous store to the new store just a quarter mile down Howard Boulevard.

The new location, right off the Route 80 westbound exit in Mount Arlington, will have a new store leader, Mike Murphy, who is moving from another QuickChek location which also sells gas. The current store leader is being promoted to another location, Mensch said.

Murphy said he is looking forward to the new store to be No. 1 in the company in a few weeks, due to the its close proximity to Route 80. The store is also very close to the Mount Arlington train station, which will also help attract commuters.

To celebrate the grand opening, QuickChek is donating 25 cents for every sub, sandwich and wrap sold in the store through Sept. 9 to the Mount Arlington Munchkin youth soccer teams.
