HANOVER TWP. - Several unlocked vehicles were entered and items were taken in the Cedar Knolls section of town Tuesday night, police said.

The thefts from five vehicles took place in the areas of condominium communities on Forest Way and Countrywood Drive, located off of Hanover Avenue, between 10 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. Wednesday, police said.

Items taken include cash, wallets, gift cards, a “secondary wallet” which included a social security card and driver’s license, and rugs and sheets from Bed Bath & Beyond valued at $140.

Also stolen was a brown satchel containing miscellaneous papers, but that was left in the street, recovered by an officer and returned to its owner, police said.

All thefts occurred in unlocked cars and no vehicles were damaged, police said.

Police advised residents to take all valuables out of their vehicles, lock them, and keep them in driveways if possible.

Anyone with information or who sees something suspicious at night is asked to call the police department at 973-428-2512.
