EAST HANOVER - A 59-year-old resident of Orange was killed on Route 280 when her car went off the road near Exit 1 and struck two trees, according to the New Jersey State Police.

Lucia Luxama was declared dead at the scene of the single-vehicle accident off westbound 280 at 7:32 a.m., according to Lt. Brian Polite.

State Troopers responded to the initial call at 6:41 a.m. near mile marker 1.8, Polite said. Investigators responding to the scene determined she lost control of her 2003 Infiniti G35 sedan. The car ran off the roadway about 300 feet down an embankment and hit a guardrail before hitting two trees, according to an initial report by Sgt. Jeffrey Flynn.

Polite confirmed Luxama was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. No other vehicles were involved and no other people were injured, he said.

Luxama's name was withheld from initial reports until her family was notified. The crash also tied up morning rush-hour traffic on the highway for more than three hours, Flynn said.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
