Dover man ID’ed as victim of Friday crash

ROCKAWAY TWP. – The name of the man who died Friday while riding his bicycle on Green Pond Road was released by the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office on Monday.

Jose Antonio A. Aguilar, age 48, of Dover, was killed sometime before 6 a.m. in the area of 2 Green Pond Road, near the off ramp of Route 80 West, according to a press release from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police found Aguilar after a call reported a man had been struck by a vehicle while he was riding a bicycle. Aguilar was transported to St. Clare's Dover Campus hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, the release said.

Aguilar was identified as the victim and the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death to be multiple injuries, and the manner of death to be an accident, the release said.

The Prosecutor’s Office, Major Crimes Unit and the Rockaway Township Police Department continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident. However, there are no criminal charges at this time, the release said. The investigation remains ongoing.

The Prosecutor’s Office said it would release no further details at this time.

Mayor Michael Dachisen said on Friday that the vehicle police are looking for is a truck. The mayor said at least one uninvolved motorist witnessed the accident and stopped. The victim was pedaling home from his job at a nearby plant, the mayor said.
