Police: Madison hit and run victim has died

Staff report

MADISON – A man who may have been the victim of a hit and run last month has died as a result of his injuries.

The 53-year-old male was found, critically injured, in the area of Main Street and Prospect Street at 9:45 p.m. on June 20, police said.

The man, whose name has never been released, was hospitalized after the accident and succumbed to his injuries at Morristown Medical Center on July 1, according to a joint statement from the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office and the Madison Police Department.

The statement said that the man was 53 years old, that he was a resident of Madison and that further information as to the male’s identity is being withheld.

Police believe that the man’s injuries were the result of a possible hit and run and the investigation points to a specific-type vehicle leaving the scene of the incident and traveling east on Main Street towards Chatham.
