Pair driving in Kinnelon face heroin charges

Staff report

KINNELON – Two people were arrested after a traffic stop that uncovered heroin and hypodermic needles, police said.

At 8:52 a.m. on Saturday, Officer Keith Kelly noticed a 2011 Kia approach him at the intersection of Kinnelon and Kakeout roads while he was on a traffic enforcement detail.

Kelly stopped the vehicle after seeing motor vehicle violations that included a cracked windshield and the driver not wearing a seatbelt, police said.

Kelly spoke to the driver, Alexandra Coroneos, 28, of Hopatcong, and her passenger, Kolby Kapetanankis, 31, of Sussex, and noticed signs of alleged drug use by the driver, police said.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed several hypodermic needles, several small empty bags containing residue believed to be heroin and several small bags of heroin and several more hypodermic needles that allegedly belonged to the passenger.

Kapetanakis was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of hypodermic needles.

Coroneos was also charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of hypodermic needles and given motor vehicle summons for failure to wear a seatbelt and cracked windshield.

Both were released on their own recognizance and given a pending court date.
