Mother and 11-year-old daughter hit by car at Rockaway Twp. bus station

ROCKAWAY TWP. - A mother and her young daughter were hit by a car on their way from the bus station last week, township police said.

At about 10:52 p.m. March 20, township police officers responded to the Lakeland Bus Depot on East Blackwell Street for a report of two pedestrians struck in front of the station, police said.

Upon arrival, officers determined the mother, 50, and her daughter, 11, both from Denville, were had been walking across East Blackwell Street from a bus into a parking lot across the street, police said.

While crossing the street, the mother and daughter were hit by a 59-year-old driver from Hackettstown who was traveling east on the roadway, police said.

The mother and daughter were both taken to Morristown Medical Center for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Their condition was not known Tuesday.

The accident remains under investigation Tuesday, but police said drugs and alcohol are not suspected as a cause.

No charges had been issued as of Tuesday, but motor vehicle summonses for the driver were possible, police said.

Rockaway Township Fire and First Aid also responded to the scene.
