A Monmouth County man tried to hide a lit marijuana cigarette from police during a traffic stop by concealing it in his underwear, according to a Hackettstown Police Department report.

Jerome Postell, 33, of Cliffwood was arrested for possession of alleged marijuana on March 26 in Hackettstown after allegedly stashing a lit joint in his underwear.

The suspect eventually pulled the joint from his briefs and surrendered it to the officer making the stop, according to Sgt. Darren Tynan.

The Hackettstown officer initiated the traffic stop at 11:29 p.m. on Saturday after observing the driver, identified as Jerome Postell, 33, of the Cliffwood section of Aberdeen Township, commit a moving violation, according to the report. When the officer approached the vehicle, he observed smoke coming out of it and detected the odor of burnt marijuana.

According to Tynan, the officer determined that Postell had just lit a marijuana cigarette and placed it in his underwear as he was being pulled over. Postell also had in his possession a bag containing suspected marijuana and a silver grinder containing suspected marijuana, Tynan said.

Postell was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintenance of lamps. He was released pending a court appearance.
