NJ’s fifth medical marijuana dispensary to open

Associated Press

TRENTON — New Jersey Health Department officials have announced the Garden State’s fifth medical marijuana dispensary is set to open in Middlesex County.

NJ.com reports Breakwater Treatment & Wellness will open its doors Thursday, taking patients by appointment only.

The dispensary, located in a 21,000-square-foot facility in an industrial park, received its permit to begin growing operations in November. Breakwater received its final permit from the state on Wednesday.

Health Department spokeswoman Donna Leusner says there are 5,540 registered patients and 355 caregivers authorized to purchase medical marijuana in New Jersey.

Under state law passed in 2010, patients are required to select one dispensary to fit their needs.

Leusner says New Jersey’s sixth and final dispensary, planned for Secaucus, remains in the background check phase.
