RIVERDALE – A woman with two children in her car crashed into the Chili's restaurant on Route 23 last week, police said.

Police responded at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday for a report of a vehicle striking the Chili's building, located on the northbound side of Route 23 in Riverdale, Lt. James Macintosh said.

An investigation by Patrolman Eric Hollenstein revealed a grey Subaru Forester driven by Raney Mennonna, 46, of Kinnelon, struck the building near the take out area of the restaurant, damaging both the vehicle and the building, Macintosh said.

Mennonna told police she was pulling into a parking sport when she accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, Macintosh said.

Mennonna's two children, ages 10 and seven, who were in the Subaru at the time of the crash.

Both children sustained minor facial injuries and were taken to the hospital as a precaution by the Pompton Lakes-Riverdale First Aid Squad.

No charges were disclosed by police, but the incident remains under investigation.

A manager at the Chili's said everyone was fine and the restaurant remained open Wednesday night. Chili's was open for business during regular hours the following day.
