Treat dad to a stack of pancakes this weekend as the Kiwanis Club of Denville hosts its annual Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast from 8 p.m. to noon on Sunday. The event will be held at the Gardner Field Pavilion in Denville.

“We get a great turnout every single year,” said Errol Ernstrom, chairman of the Father’s Day Pancake Breakfast. “The community really supports us.”

The cost is $7 per person, and includes an all-you-cat-eat breakfast of pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee, and juice. Children can enjoy pancakes shaped like Mickey Mouse. A 50-50 drawing will be held at 12 p.m.; the winner doesn’t need to be present.

“There are families who come every year, and have made this their annual Father’s Day tradition,” Ernstrom said. “Most dads don’t want to cook, so this is the perfect opportunity to get out and enjoy some time with your family…and where else can you get a delicious all-you-can-eat breakfast for $7?”

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Kiwanis International, and the Kiwanis Club of Denville is celebrating its 58th year of hosting the pancake breakfast.

“It’s always a lot of fun,” he said. “All of the members from the club come out, and local families really enjoy having a great breakfast together right here in town.”

The pancake breakfast is one of the club’s major fundraisers each year.

“All of our proceeds go to helping children; that’s really what we’re all about,” Ernstrom said. Recently, the organization held a Bicycle Rodeo with the Denville Police Department and Cycle Craft of Parsippany that offered free bicycle and helmet inspections and tune-ups, and a bike ride with the Denville Police Department.

“It was our birthday gift to Denville, in honor of the 100th anniversary of Kiwanis International,” said Lance M. Incitti, past president of the Kiwanis International Foundation and member of the Denville Kiwanis.

The Kiwanis Club of Denville is part of Kiwanis International, and joins approximately 8,600 clubs in 80 countries around the world.

“Kiwanis International is an organization dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time,” Incitti said.

The organization is comprised of men and women who are involved in local businesses and dedicated to serving both their local and national communities. The Denville-based club meets every Monday evening at Charlie Brown’s in Denville at 6:30 p.m.

“We’re open for new members; we’re always looking for people who find enjoyment in giving back to the local community,” Ernstrom said.

The club offers sponsored youth clubs dedicated to helping children grow up to become service-oriented adults by stressing service, fundraising, responsibility, cooperation, and leadership. The clubs are: Morris Knolls Key Club; Morris Hills Key Club; Morris Catholic Key Club; Morris County School of Technology Key Club; Valleyview Builders Club; Lakeview K Kids; and Riverview K Kids.

Denville Kiwanis also supports Denville Little League and Eagle Scouts, among others, and organizes youth-centric projects such as an annual summer camp for children with disabilities.

“Our pancake breakfast is one of our most popular fundraisers,” Incitti said. “It helps us to continue our efforts in the community, such as offering college scholarships to local high school students.”
