An estimated 2,000 motorcyclists roared down Route 80 Wednesday during the 28th annual Gooch's Garlic Run. Departing at 6:30 p.m. from the parking lot at Rockaway Townsquare mall in Rockaway Township , the bikers slowed traffic as they covered 30 miles to Ferry Street in the Ironbound section of Newark.

Chapter IX of the Blue Knights International Law Enforcement Motorcycle Club was the co-host the annual benefit ride, which raises money for New Jersey children with physical and catastrophic illnesses .

The biker caravan was cheered on by hundreds of spectators, some who gathered on Route 80 overpasses along the route, while others simply pulled their cars over on the highway to take photos.

Proceeds from this year's ride are benefiting three young New Jersey residents:

•Anthony L. Longo, 6, of Wantage, who has been diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia and is being treated at Goryeb Children's Hospital in Morristown.

•Aryanna Tamsyn Brahs, 2, of Newton, who was born with Treacher Collins Syndrome, which affects the development of bones and other tissues of the head.

•Joseph Hayden, 16, of Franklin (Sussex County), who suffers from Congenital Hypoventilation Syndrome and Hirschprung Disease. Joseph undergoes treatments at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia.
