Morristown High School student Amy Albin has been singing for as long as she can remember.

“Music is my life,” said the 16-year-old Albin. “Singing is one of the primary ways I express myself.”

Albin started performing publicly about five years ago, and in a few weeks she will show off her skills in front of her biggest audience yet at Morristown’s Got Talent.

Albin will perform Kelly Clarkson’s “A Moment Like This” at the February show.

“This song is special to me because it's about being in the moment and in the zone,” Albin said. “That's what performance is all about, and that's where I need to be at the show.”

Albin is hopeful she has a chance to win because for the first time there are three possible categories, not just one. She can potentially win in two of the three; the 18 and under category and the audience award.

“I honestly feel that it would be great if I won, but if I didn't, I wouldn't care,” Albin said. “I'd say, at least this has been a fun, rewarding experience.”

If she wins, she’ll use the money to save for college. Albin, who is blind, also plans to donate a small portion to the National Federation of the Blind.

In addition to singing, Albin is also an accomplished writer, recently winning the Fine Work Award for the Onkyo Braille Essay Contest promoting Braille literacy for blind people.

Leading up to the competition, Albin plans to work on her vocals with her singing coach, Nancy Bangiola and convince as many people as she can to attend the show and vote for her.

If she can find the time, Albin may enjoy some of her favorite movies.

“Anything with plenty of dialogue or if I've read the associated book,” Albin said. “Older movies are easiest to follow.”

Albin soon plans to attend County College of Morris, and eventually transition to a four-year school. She wants to become a teacher of the blind.
