Morris Habitat accepting applications for 4 new low-income homes in Dover

STAFF REPORT

DOVER – Morris Habitat for Humanity is accepting applications for four new low-income homes to be constructed on Harding Avenue in Dover.

There will be four single-family homes available for applicants who meet the program guidelines. One of the homes is being reserved for a veteran, at the request of the town of Dover.

In addition to income qualifications, applicants must be able to afford monthly payments for utilities, taxes and an interest-free mortgage. Other qualifications include a good credit history and indication that the applicant’s current housing is inadequate for their needs.

For this new building project, Morris Habitat will use a new “prototype” home concept — homes can be built to suit the applicant’s household size. The same footprint can be used to build a two-, three- or four-bedroom home, according to a statement released by Morris Habitat.

The most important part, according to the release, is the willingness of the family or individual to complete the full Habitat application process, which includes full personal disclosure, attendance and participation in a home buyer education session and willingness to contribute “sweat equity” of at least three hundred hours to help build their home.

Orientation sessions will be held 6:30 p.m. Jan. 14, Jan. 20 and Jan. 21; and 10 a.m. on Jan. 24. Sessions will start promptly, no late admissions.

To register for a session, email info@morrishabitat.org with a subject line “Homeownership – Dover.” Include name, address and telephone number in the email.
