World cultures celebrated at The Peck School fair

MORRISTOWN – The Peck School of Morristown held it's 7th annual World Cultures Fair on Friday, with special guests, food and family-friendly activities highlighting various cultures and customs around the world.

The fair was a celebration of diversity and community and featured samplings of pot-luck style international cuisine, globally-inspired arts and crafts and such sports as Tae Kwon Do, Zumba and Russian ballet, according to a prepared statement.

Guests included Morristown Mayor Tim Dougherty and Maggie Doyne, a native of Mendham and founder of BlinkNow, a charitable organization dedicated to providing education and shelter for orphaned, impoverished and at-risk children in Nepal. Morristown restaurants, shops and businesses also participated.

The Peck School is an independent, co-educational day school with a diverse student body from 60 communities representing a range of ethnic and racial heritages, religious beliefs and socio-economic backgrounds, according to the statement.

The World Cultures Fair is the school's largest annual cross-cultural event. The school also holds cultural assemblies on a regular basis covering such topics as Hindu religion and culture, Muslim religion and culture, Japanese culture, Hungarian culture, South African culture and more.
