Police Blotter: Illegal dumping in Hopatcong; DWI in Mount Olive

HOPATCONG

•On April 17, Officer Anthony Cirri was driving on Smokerise Road when he smelled the odor of burnt marijuana. He exited his patrol vehicle and heard people in the backyard of 8 Smokerise Road. As he approached he noticed the odor of burnt marijuana get stronger. In the backyard he found four borough residents: Carlo Spina, 22, of Smokerise Road, Andrew Priestman, 20, of Pahaquarry Road, Christian Sorbara, 22, of Bucknell Trail and Eric Chirco, 26, of 453 Maxim Drive.

Cirri reported that a glass bowl with burnt marijuana residue in it was set on a table they were sitting at. Under the table was a Ziploc bag containing suspected marijuana and six individually wrapped “gummies“ in tin foil. (the “gummies“ are suspected to be a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance laced with a synthetic substance similar THC, the active ingredient in marijuana). No one claimed ownership of the substances and all four men were arrested and taken to headquarters. All were charged with possession of a Schedule I narcotic (third degree), possession of marijuana and possession of paraphernalia. They were released after being served.

•On April 24, a borough resident reported to police that he saw employees of J&M Paving out of Hopatcong using a wheelbarrow to dump pavement into a vacant lot. The complainant said they were ripping up a driveway on a home up the street and dumping it into the woods near the complainant’s home. The complainant said he confronted the workers about illegally dumping the pavement into the woods behind a guardrail.

Police were told the owner of J&M Paving, identified as Joel Misasi, and his employee, Daniel Meusel, both from Hopatcong, cleaned most of it up after being confronted. Officer James Bianculli investigated the complaint and discovered there was pavement still left in the woods. Bainculli called Misasi, who confirmed what the homeowner had reported, but said he and Meusel did not dump the remaining asphalt there. Misasi and Meusel were issued summonses for illegal dumping.

KINNELON

•On April 20, Kinnelon police arrested Jacquelyn Kida, 24, of Pompton Lakes on charges that included an attempted burglary of a Boonton Avenue residence on March 18. She was arrested without incident at her Perin Avenine address in Pompton Lakes and transported to headquarters for questioning.

Kida is alleged to have attempted to gain entrance to the Boonton Avenue residence by breaking a rear window, but was scared off by individuals in the surrounding neighborhood, causing her to flee in a gray-colored vehicle that had stopped along the roadway.

Kida was charged with attempted burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary (a third-degree crime) and criminal mischief (a disorderly persons offense). Judge Andrew M. Wubbenhorst set bail at $50,000 with no 10 percent option. Kida was transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility in default of bail

The case is still under investigation and additional evidence is sought. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the detective bureau at 973-838-5400.

MOUNT OLIVE

•On April 24, Officer Lonnie Elbaum observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign on Park Place in Flanders. Elbaum stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Lanija Mendes. Elbaum observed a container commonly used to hold drugs and drug paraphernalia in the vehicle. Mendes was asked to exit the vehicle and consented to a search of the vehicle. Elbaum located a pill bottle containing marijuana and other drug paraphernalia. Mendes was arrested and transported to headquarters, where she was charged and released pending a court appearance.

•On April 24, Officer Marianne Wurtemberg responded to Oakwood Village for a report of a possible intoxicated driver. Upon arrival she observed and stopped the vehicle, identifying the driver as Barbara Perrone of Rockaway. Wurtemberg observed signs of impairment and asked Perrone to exit the car and perform standardized field-sobriety tests. Following the tests, Perrone was arrested for driving while intoxicated. Perrone was transported to headquarters, where she and submitted to a chemical breath test and charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. Perrone was released pending a court appearance.

•At 9:54 p.m. on April 28, Mt. Olive Dispatch received a call from a juvenile male who said he had just been punched and his phone had been stolen. Officer Michael Carletta arrived and met with the victim who said that a Hispanic male came out of the woods and approached him, asking if he had any drugs or money on him. The victim stated that he replied no and was then punched in the stomach and his phone was taken.

A description was given and police checked the area, locating a male subject matching the description given by the victim. After an investigation, the male subject, identified Christian Aponte, was arrested and transported to headquarters. Aponte was charged with robbery, theft of moveable property and receiving-possession of stolen property. Bail was set at $100,000 with no 10 percent option, and transported to the Morris County Correctional Facility in default of bail.

During the investigation officers also learned that the victim provided false information to police and was arrested and charged with false-forged statement to authorities. The juvenile was released and has a pending court appearance.

•At 12:48 a.m. on April 30, Officer Constantino Pagonis was patrolling Route 46 in the area of Connelly Avenue. Pagonis observed a 2002 Ford traveling west on Route 46 with an equipment violation. A motor-vehicle stop was conducted at which time the male driver, with the last-name of Heidkamp, appeared to be impaired due to alcohol consumption. Pagonis conducted field-sobriety tests and Heidkamp was arrested and transported to headquarters. At headquarters Heidkamp submitted to chemical breath tests and was charged with D.W.I., reckless driving and maintenance of lamps. Heidkamp was released

PARSIPPANY

•Between April 25 and April 26, Officer W. Stone responded to a Longview Avenue residence for a burglary to an automobile. The female victim said that unknown suspect(s) entered her unlocked 2012 silver Honda Accord sometime between 11:30 p.m. on April 25 and 4:18 p.m. on April 26 while it was parked in her driveway. The contents of the center console were strewn about the interior of the vehicle; however no personal items were removed. No suspect(s) were observed.

•At 1:05 a.m. on April 26, Officers M. Kimble and A. Ohlsen, with assistance from Sgt. E. Kinsey, responded to the Hilton Hotel for a report of a burglary to an automobile. A 48-year-old man from Ledgewood said that between 3 p.m. on April 24 and and midnight, unknown suspect(s) attempted to enter his 2012 black BMW X6 in the hotel parking lot.
