Flooding, traffic easing on Route 287 in Hanover

Staff Report

HANOVER TWP. – All lanes of Route 287 in Hanover Township, which were closed due to flooding, are now open, but motorists can expect continued delays.

Traffic Alert

Beginning at about 7 a.m., the left lane of Route 287 North and the two left lanes of Route 287 South near Exit 39 were closed as workers from the NJ Department of Transportation worked to clear debris clogging drainage basins.

"Flooding is to be expected after such heavy rains overnight," said DOT spokesperson Steve Schapiro. "We haven't had rain for so long so it's harder for the ground to absorb it, and more debris ends up in catch basins."

Traffic is still backed up for miles in either direction, and Schapiro says that commuters can expect to add an additional 30 minutes onto their trips until about 11 a.m.
