Police Blotter: Paintball and pot in Parsippany; search for child in Hanover

HACKETTSTOWN

•On Thursday, Walter Wester, 28, of Hackettstown, on a $1,000 Hackettstown municipal court criminal warrant. Walter was then released pending a court appearance.

HANOVER

•At 5:09 p.m. on May 24, a 30-year-old Brick man accidentally dropped approximately $100 as he was leaving a store. Once he realized this he returned to the store to learn that an employee found the money and turned it over to management. However, an as yet to be identified female approached management and reported dropping money. The money was given to the woman who then left the store. The investigation continues.

•At 6:45 p.m. Monday, all on duty officers as well as the night shift officers that were at headquarters responded to a Whippany residence on a report of a missing 7 year old. Within minutes police had started their search of the home and immediate area as well as requesting Morris County Sheriff’s Department K-9 support. An officer was also directed to the Quick Chek on Parsippany Road as the mother had reported her son had earlier requested to go there for a drink but had been told they would go later. As this was taking place the boy and a relative returned to the residence after having taken a trip to Quick Chek. The relative, believing the mother had given her permission, had driven the boy to Quick Chek.

MOUNT OLIVE

•At 9:59 p.m. on Tuesday, Officer Thomas Cuff was dispatched to the area of Elizabeth Lane and Forest Road for the report of a suspicious vehicle parked off the roadway. Cuff arrived on scene and observed a 2004 Mercury parked on Elizabeth Lane, facing in the wrong direction, occupied by two individuals. Cuff detected the odor of raw and burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Michael Moran, 19, of Budd Lake, and located a partially smoked marijuana cigarette outside of the vehicle next to the driver side door. Moran and Paige Hink, 19, of Budd Lake, were subsequently arrested and transported to police headquarters. Moran was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, use of marijuana, and improper parking. Hink was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and use of marijuana. Both subjects were released on their own recognizance with a pending court appearance.

•At 1:56 a.m. on Wednesday, Officer Andrew Spotts was patrolling Route 46 in the area of Spring Street when he observed a 2012 GMC parked on Spring Street with its lights activated. Spotts approached the vehicle to inquire about the welfare of the driver, Todd Madsen, 42, of Hillsborough, who appeared to be impaired due to alcohol consumption. Spotts conducted field sobriety tests and Madsen was subsequently arrested and transported to police headquarters where he was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. Madsen was released to a sober driver and he has a pending court appearance.

PARSIPPANY

•At 8:18 p.m. on May 20, officers responded to wooded area located near South Beverwyck Road and Troy Meadow Road for a report of shots fired. A complainant advised the officers that he was on a nature walk and observed two young men shooting a revolver-style handgun in the woods. The officers conducted an area check and located a vehicle in a clearing within the woods and two men, Thomas McMaster and Ramzi Musbeh, both 18 and from Parsippany. The officers retrieved a paintball gun which the men were allegedly firing, several items of drug paraphernalia including a glass bong water-pipe as well as suspected marijuana. Musbeh was issued a summons for discharging/use of a firearm. McMaster was issued summonses for discharging/use of a firearm, possession of marijuana, 50 grams or less and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both men were released from headquarters pending court dates.

•At 1:34 a.m. on May 22, Officers M. Kimble, J. Pledger and A. Clark, with assistance from Sgt. E. Kinsey responded to a Park Road residence for a reported fire. A heavy smoke condition was present and Parsippany Fire Districts 1 and 2, Car 69 Rescue & Recovery and Car 65 Ambulance responded to the scene, where all occupants had already vacated the home. The fire, which started in the basement, was extinguished by fire personnel. The family was displaced due to the extent of damage caused by the fire. Parsippany Police Fire Investigator Detective Edward Conklin conducted a preliminary investigation which determined the fire to be electrical and accidental. The incident remains under investigation.
