MENDHAM TWP. – Police are asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle involved in a hit and run accident Sunday evening.

At about 10:15 p.m. Sunday, a grey Audi A5 was traveling westbound on Tempe Wick Road through Jockey Hollow National Park when another vehicle began to tailgate it, police Lt. Ross Johnson said.

As both cars approached Leddell Road in the township, the unknown vehicle struck the Audi from behind, sending it off the road, where it rolled over and landed back on the roadway, Johnson said.

The other vehicle took off without stopping after striking the Audi, Johnson said.

The Audi’s two occupants, a 53-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman, were taken to Morristown Medical Center for treatment. Their injuries were not life-threatening but not minor either, according to Johnson.

The ensuing investigation revealed police are looking for possibly a 2012 or 2013 silver or grey Mercedes Benz C300 or C350 with damage to the front of the vehicle. The vehicle will be missing the Mercedes emblem and pieces of its grill and headlights, most likely on the passenger side, Johnson said.

The vehicle was likely heading in the area of Mendham, Chester, Randolph, or Long Valley, traveling through Harding on Glan Alpin Road or Route 202 at about 10:10 p.m. Sunday, Johnson said.

Anyone who may know the potential location of the vehicle or has any information regarding the accident is asked to call the Mendham Township Police at 973-543-2581. Callers can dial 0 and tell the dispatcher what they know. Callers can remain anonymous, Johnson said.

The accident remains under investigation Monday.
