Man charged with vandalizing Parsippany firehouse

Staff report

PARSIPPANY – A West New York resident was charged with vandalizing a township firehouse on Sunday.

Officers A. Ohlsen, J. Pledger and Sgt. A. Keiser responded to the Parsippany Fire Department’s District 4 Firehouse, located at 39 N. Beverwyck Road, at 8:30 a.m. for a report of criminal mischief.

The officers were told a man had thrown rocks through the windows of the two front garage doors, and side entry door glass, with subsequent damage to the windshield of a fire truck and an electronic message board.

The suspect had fled the scene prior to police arriving at the fire house but while they were there they got a call about an intoxicated injured male who had gone into a 7-Eleven on North Beverwyck Road and then fled, police said

The description of the injured male matched the description given of the man who vandalized the firehouse, police said.

As police were continuing to investigate, the man returned to the 7-Eleven as a passenger in a vehicle, police said.

He was approached by Ohlsen and Pledger who determined he was the suspect for the criminal mischief to the firehouse.

The man, Kiefer Corro, 26, of West New York, was placed under arrest and transported to St. Clare’s Hospital by Car 66 for injuries suffered during the vandalism, police said.

After he was treated at the hospital, Corro was transported to police headquarters where he was charged with third degree criminal mischief due to the approximate $3500 in damages. His bail was set at $5,000 and he was released on bail pending a court appearance.
