Art from 300 Morris students on display at St. Clare’s

Special to the Daily Record

DOVER – Artwork from schools throughout Morris County is on display at St. Clare’s Hospital/Dover General through March 28 as part of Youth Art Month.

“We are so excited to showcase the talent of students throughout Morris County, as well as the school’s art programs,” said Maura Boucher, chair of the Morris County Youth Art Month program. “Our 2015 show will be our largest one to date, with 30 public and private schools represented and 300 students participating. Our show primarily features two-dimensional work, but does showcase some three-dimensional work, as well.”

The artwork is on display in the lobby of the hospital, located at 400 West Blackwell St.

A reception will be held on March 28, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and it will feature a musical ensemble from Randolph Middle School. Guest artist Hannah Frustol from the Randolph High School Class of 2015 will complete charcoal portraits on site, with proceeds donated to the Mary Gill Scholarship fund which benefits a Morris County senior who is furthering their education in the fine arts.

Youth Art Month is nationally sponsored by The Council for Art Education and was started in 1961. The event celebrates visual arts for grades K–12 and emphasizes the value of art education for all children, encourages support for quality school art programs, and promotes art material safety.

Youth Art Month also provides a forum for recognizing skills developed through visual arts experiences that are not possible in other curriculum subjects.
