Here's some good news to add a little extra life to the big Boonton Main Street "Zombie Walk" scheduled for 5 to 9 p.m. on Friday — one of the undead will walk away with two free tickets to see the hit national touring production of "Evil Dead: the Musical" coming to the Mayo Performing Arts Center in Morristown on Oct. 28.

The Daily Record and Gannett New Jersey are sponsoring a "Black and White and Dead All Over" contest that will invite readers to vote for their favorite zombies who visit Boonton during the event, the latest in a series of popular, themed "First Friday" events sponsored by the Boonton Main Street nonprofit business organization.

Anyone age 18 or older attending the Zombie Walk in costume can enter by having their photo taken by a Daily Record staffer. Entries will close at 8 p.m. Reporter William Westhoven also will be reporting, shooting video and live Tweeting from the event.

The Daily Record staff will choose finalists from the contest entries and their photos will be uploaded to a photo gallery on Dailyrecord.com. Readers can vote online or call 973-428-6627 and leave a voicemail message indicating their choice.

Voting will conclude at 5 p.m. on Wednesday and the winner will be announced on Friday, Oct. 9. The winner must produce a valid ID with age, such as a driver's license, to claim his or her prize.

Readers also can follow the event and contest online on Facebook, Twitter (@DailyRecord) and join in the fun by sharing their photos and posts with the hashtag #BoontonZombies.

In addition to photos of the contest finalists and a Daily Record photo gallery documenting the event, we plan to post a gallery of reader-submitted photos from their visit to Boonton. To see your zombie photos online, upload them to DailyRecord.com/share or email them to EAbreu@GannettNJ.com.

Based on the cult-favorite horror movie, "Evil Dead: The Musical" tells the outrageous story of five friends who spend a weekend in an abandoned cabin and accidentally unleash an evil force that turns them into demons. Warning: Audience members sitting in the designated “Splatter Zone” get covered in fake blood. The show, which presents graphic violence, strong language and adult situations, is recommended for mature audiences.

The show is part of MPAC's theater series, which includes touring productions of hit musicals such as "The Producers" (Nov. 19-20) and "Ragtime: The musical (Jan. 28) along with special music events such as "Bewitched Broadway" (Oct. 30).

Called "Bloody hilarious" by one critic and frequently compared to "The Rocky Horror Show," "Evil Dead: The Musical" premiered in Toronto before making its way to off-Broadway and a successful resident run on the Las Vegas Strip that premiered in 2012 and is still running.
