When it comes to living the good life, sometimes you just have to pamper yourself.
That’s where day spas come in.
Brenda Hunt, owner/director of Panache Hair Salon & Day Spa in the Whitehouse Station section of Readington, said customers “think it’s an escape. They feel welcome as soon as they come in the door.”
And, when they do come in the door, there’s a realm of nine packages to choose from. The packages start with waxing services that are less than $20. Manicures start at $20. They also do massages and facials.
The Panache Escape package, spa manicure, spa pedicure and European facial is $148 for half a day.
“The most expensive thing is a full day package, Panache Vacation, which includes lunch, is $455. It starts with a European facial, detoxifying mud wrap, a full-hour Swedish body massage with scalp treatment, Panache manicure and Panache pedicure, blow dry hair styling and makeup application, and lunch,” Hunt said.
And, when it comes to pampering yourself, the eyes have it, too.
“One of the most popular treatments is NovaLash Eyelash Extensions, a full set is usually $300. Consultations are required,” said Hunt.
And, let’s not forget those feet. “Spa pedicure tends to be a staple in our services,” Hunt said.
Other services include airbrush tanning, which is Norvell, which, Hunt said, is number one in the nation. “Microderm abrasion is also popular in the winter. You can achieve a natural glow in your skin.”
“Education is huge here,” said Hunt. “Designers come in and do training with our stylists in the spa. They work hard to know as much as they can. We’ve been here 33½ years. I try to research expectations of what our clients are looking for. We’ve just received our fifth Talk of The Town Excellence in Customer Service Award.”
“You might not be able to get to Paris, but you can come into the spa and pamper yourself,” Hunt said. “Go ahead and pamper yourself. Stay for as little as an hour or for as long as a day.”
Katherine Mehner of Clinton Township certainly knows what the spa offers: She’s been going every week for different Panache services offers since 1984.
“I’ve gotten at least five different spa treatments,” Mehner said. “My favorite is literally whatever I’m having done at the time.”
Mehner said she usually gets her nails done every week, and goes once a month for most of the other services.
“Each five years I give myself permission to add another monthly spa treatment. I look younger than my age, thanks to Panache,” Mehner said. “I feel younger, lighter and happier.”

If a visit to a day spa doesn’t make you feel lighter, a visit to a fitness center or a session with a personal trainer certainly might.
Robert Mason, vice president of Firm Body Fitness in Mendham, said the business offers personal training, massage, a lot of tissue manipulation.” Mason said they are “super high in flexibility training.”
Mason said the cost all depends on what trainer you get. “Little packages that we offer through another one of our trainers; it could be $85 an hour for a single.”
Mason and his wife, Barbara,, offer decades of fitness experience.
“We’ve been doing this since 1988,” he said. “My wife has a dance background, I have a bodybuilding background and also a power-lifting background. And we’ve both taken exercise physiology.”
Mason said, “We have a tremendous amount of certifications. My wife is a Pilates instructor also. We’re really like kind of physical therapists. We address every need of a person. We go with what people need. I have a new machine at my center, it cost $20,000. It’s called a Pulsed Electro Magnetic Field Therapy. It was used by NASA to help with bone loss that the astronauts would experience via zero gravity.”
There are a few restrictions, said Mason, but “as long as you’re not pregnant, have chemotherapy, a pacemaker or something that runs on batteries, you can pretty much use this thing. It reboots your cells in your body. It’s almost like your cell phone’s not working, turn it off, turn it on, and boom, it’s rebooted. It returns circulation to normal, almost upgrades circulation. Cyclists, people who have pain can benefit from this tremendously. It will work on your tendons, your ligaments, your bones and your muscles.” The cost is $30 for approximately 15 minutes.
Of current trending fitness regimens, Mason, who was Mr. Natural New Jersey in body building and overall champion in Masters Bodybuilding, said people are trying to do a little more cycling indoors. “These clubs for spinning with yoga (are) beginning to get very popular,” Mason said.
“We basically teach how to weight lift properly and address flexibility needs and when you’re injured,” Mason said. “I tend to get some difficult patients with problems they can’t really resolve. It’s more of a personalized stretching. You feel energized and you feel like you can go for a run.”
