A Dover resident who is awaiting trial on charges of participating in the alleged gang-rape of a 17-year-old woman has been charged with possession of 77 grams of marijuana with the intent to distribute.

DeQuan L. McDaniel, now 21, was stopped around 2:35 a.m. Saturday on the Boulevard in Mountain Lakes for what police described as an “equipment violation.” During the stop by Denville police, a decision was made to impound McDaniel’s vehicle.

A criminal complaint filed in Superior Court, Morristown, said that 77 grams of marijuana, packaged for suspected distribution, was found during the stop.

McDaniel was charged with possession of more than 50 grams of marijuana, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and fireworks. He allegedly also had open containers of alcohol in the car.

McDaniel initially was lodged in the Morris County jail on $100,000 bail, which was lowered to $20,000 during a bail review Monday by Municipal Court Judge Andrew Wubbenhorst.

McDaniel is one of three men charged in the alleged aggravated sexual assault of a 17-year-old woman who has told authorities she became incapacitated after drinking a substance at a party in Morristown on Sept. 4, 2011.
